Short Cv

Dr. Maria Progoulaki is a Maritime Economist. She works as an independent consultant, as well as in cooperation with Global Marine Solutions, Newfoundland, Canada. She is a Part-time Lecturer at the American College of Greece and a Visiting Lecturer at the Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport, University of the Aegean, Greece. She is also a Research Associate in Shipping and Ports Laboratory (Re-SHIP), University of the Aegean, Chios Greece.
She has working experience in El Victor Crew Managers- Manning Agents in Greece (2010-2011), where she was assigned Safety & Quality Manager. Her duties also included Research & Development tasks.
She has a teaching experience (2002 to date) in Post- and Under-graduate Programs (Maritime Human Resource Management, Introduction to Shipping, Organisational Change Management, Management of Shipping Companies, Human Resource Management, Business Strategy, Marketing and Sales) in the University of the Aegean (Greece) and Bremen University of Applied Sciences (Germany), and also in professional training seminars (Quality Maritime Services Training Center, Piraeus) and distance learning courses (Hellenic Open University).
She has participated in a number of International, European and National Research Projects (financed by the European Union and Commission, the Nippon Foundation, Greek Ministry of Transport, Panhellenic Seamen Federation, etc.) concerning methodologies of maritime distance learning, maritime cross-cultural training, employment and competitiveness of Greek shipping, etc.
She has published work in international scientific journals (Marine Policy, Maritime Policy and Management, WMU Journal of Maritime Affairs) and co-authored chapters in books. She has also presented more than 30 refereed papers in international and national scientific conferences (International Association of Maritime Economists, etc.) and invited presentations in various workshops and seminars (Maritime Development Centre of Europe, Piraeus Marine Club, etc.). She is referee in the international scientific journals Maritime Policy and Management, WMU Journal of Maritime Affairs and International Journal of Shipping and Transport Logistics.
She has been a scholar of the European Reinforcement Programme of Human Research Manpower (2005-2008), of Propondis Foundation (2004-2006) and has received prizes from Propeller Club of the United States, Naftotrade Shipping Company, etc.
Maria Progoulaki holds a Bachelor and a Master in Shipping, Trade and International Transport (University of the Aegean) and a Ph.D. (University of the Aegean, 2004-2008). She conducted the first on board survey in Greece for the observation of a multicultural crew (2005), and the first field survey among circa 100 Greek owned shipping companies for issues related to Human Resource Management and Management of multiculturalism in shipping (2007).
